Rain Rain Go Away

Just like many children, my sister and I were scared of thunder. Ever since I was little my mom would tell us that there was nothing to be scared of, the sound that I was scared of was just the angels bowling. Its been a long time since we were scared of thunder, but occasionally the family would say the angels are bowling when it was raining.

This morning, I woke up and went to the bathroom. I met Piggy there. Half asleep, I was aware it was raining and thundering quite loudly, so I looked at her and said,
"Piggy, are you bowling?" She started cracking up and said no.
So I ask again, "Is Daddy bowling?"
"NOOOO~" she answered laughing.
"Oh, so Panda bear is bowling?"
"Nooooo!"
Feigning exasperation I finally ask, "Then who is bowling?" expecting something about angels bowling or its thunder I waited for her answer.
She simply replied with "The rain is bowling."

Unexpected Response

My sister's wittiness does not come from nowhere. Both my mother and I have always played around with her and she has seen our friendly, happy family joking and laughing together.

One time at Costco...
...we were walking around getting food samples. When we decided it was time to find our parents. After walking for a little while, we couldn't find them. I turned to my Piggy and said, "Uhoh, Mommy and Daddy are gone. What should we do?"
She responded, "Oh, no. We have to walk home." She was not concerned or worried at all when she said this. Nor did she really think we had to walk home.

The other day...
I was going out to check the mail. Every time I do this, I say bye to her even though I'm only going to be gone a few minutes. She normally ignores me. This time I said, "BYE!"
She replied, "Bye."
Surprised I added, "See you tomorrow."
"Okay see you tomorrow," she responded not looking up from her iPad.
"Hey! You want me to come back tomorrow? That's not nice" I said feigning sadness.
"See you next week." was the reply I got to that.

In the car with my parents...
We were planning to visit Storm King, an outdoor art center. My dad asked my mom if she knew what the weather was going to be like. My mom answered that she hadn't looked yet, since it was still a few days away and the weather forecast was probably going to change.
From the back seat, after they had finished the conversation, Piggy quietly says, "Cloudy with a chance of meatballs."

After our trip to Sea World a while ago, she has been obsessed with Shamu. After seeing the movies Dolphin Tales and Dolphin Tales 2, she kept asking to see Hope and Winter. She found out they live in Florida. My aunt and uncle and cousin moved to Florida a few years ago and we are planning to visit them soon. As soon as she figured out we were going to visit, she kept asking if we could go see Hope and Winter. I asked her if she had money to go. Her typical response was, "No." and then continue to do whatever she was doing before asking. This time...
"Are we going to see Hope and Winter?"
"Do you have money?" I ask
"Yes."
"You're going to pay for it?"
"Yes."She says looking at me.
"Oh, Okay. Then we can go." I say expecting some sort of excited response, but she kept on doing what she was doing.

Where it starts

Over the last 20 years, I've had the pleasure of growing up with my sister. She's an amazing person with a perpetually happy disposition. Being born with mental and physical disabilities has done nothing to darken her outlook on life. In fact, she has the most plesant view of the world that I could imagine. At 20 years old, my Piggy (yes, I call her Piggy, but I will elaborate on that another time) is unable to write anything more than her name and recognize a few words and popular brands. However, she is able to navigate an iPad, YouTube and sing hundreds of songs with the greatest of ease. Her inability to read, write and do math has done nothing to diminish her humor, either.

And that's where this blog starts.

Over the year (and in years to come) Piggy has developed a wicked sense of humor and has become very witty. This blog is mostly for myself and my family members. It's just to document some of the things she says and share a piece of her, rather hilarious, world.
